Artist Statement:
BUNI - Fine Artist - Painter
Fresh from Tokyo, Japan, artist Buni is emerging as one of Australia's hottest new painting talents. With various group and solo exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne and Tokyo, she has settled nicely into her new studio in Collingwood, Melbourne.
Selling through Sydney's "United Galleries" and relocating to Japan May 2006, Buni's work explores identity through monochromatic images layered with a colorful street art aesthetic and traditional and contemporary Japanese design. Buni's art asks the question: do we lose our identity in fantasy, or do we aquire a new persona in the process. If so, how does the new identity unveil itself, and what are the contributing factors? Underlying the sweet, a subtle undercurrent of violence peeks through juxtaposing the beautiful and the melancholic to reaveal a poetic dualism.
Buni has been featured on the New York based "Wooster Collective" web site. Founded in 2001 the Wooster Collective is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating ephemeral art placed on streets in cities around the world. Buni has also been selected for the inclusion in the "Anything I Like" Arts section of acclaimed online magazine from Paper Tiger Media. Her work has also appeared on the front cover of TBN magazine and Player magazine in Tokyo, and most recently Belle magazine in Australia.

"We are strangers by day" appeared in Australian 'Belle' magazine this month. it was part of the "Unwrapped" exhibition in the group show at United Galleries 181 Palmer St East Sydney, Australia, where (if i may brag just a little here) all my work sold prior to the opening. i was a very happy camper.

ARTASIS has had it's 1st birthday! This small gallery in Melbourne, Australia has had so much artwork through it's doors the past year, and Amber and Paul have done such a wonderful job keeping the art contemporary, exciting, and fresh. They also attempted the Art Fair for the very first time, and made many important connections and met a lot of prospective clients.
I couldn't ask for more honest and friendlier representation in Melbourne, I am so lucky to have their support.
So THANKS ARTASIS! (o^_^o) you're the best, I am proud to be part of your gallery!
